How to Find Infernal Iron - Baldur's Gate III Guide - IGN (2024)

If you've recruited Karlach, you've probably started her Companion Quest, which involves her Infernal Engine and trying to cool it down to prevent it from exploding. In order to do this, you'll need some Infernal Iron. Infernal Iron is a fairly rare asset, but we'll cover all the places where you can find Infernal Iron in order to cool down Karlach's Infernal Engine in Baldur's Gate 3!

How Do You Use Infernal Iron?

You need some Infernal Iron to fix Karlach's Infernal Engine, but if you've already found a piece of Infernal Iron and are wondering how to use it, you needn't look farther.

Head over to the Druid Grove where you can find Dammon, a Tiefling blacksmith, who's nestled in the corner.

Talk to him with Karlach in your party and he'll comment on her Infernal Engine, asking you to bring some Infernal Iron to him to help cool her down. Once you've done that, you'll get a cutscene where Karlach absorbs the Iron into her Engine.

However, you can only talk to Dammon once in this location in order to cool her down. Any subsequent uses of Infernal Iron will require you to visit Dammon in another area.

Currently at this time, if Dammon dies or you kill him, we're unsure where or who you need to speak to in order to progress Karlach's "The Hellion's Heart" Companion Quest. Stay tuned for more details.

You can also use additional Infernal Iron to give to Dammon in the Last Light Inn during Act 2, and he can craft very special armor for you, so be on the lookout for multiple Infernal Irons!

All Infernal Iron Locations in BG3

Currently, there's a total of Seven known locations of Infernal Iron. You will only need two to complete Karlach's "The Hellion's Heart" Companion Quest, but you can collect additional Infernal Iron to give to Dammon later.

Blacksmith's Workshop - Blighted Village

This is most likely the first Infernal Iron you'll stumble across. This is located in a chest in the blacksmith's workshop located underneath the Blighted Village. There's multiple ways of getting in here, including using the locked doors near the Blighted Village Waypoint, finding your way down there from the Well and destroying the cracked wall, or destroying the calcified web from inside the workshop and jumping inside.

Once inside, all you'll need to do is find the locked chest located on a top shelf area and picking the lock.

Dror Ragzlin's Stash - Shattered Sanctum

The Shattered Sanctum, or the inside of the Goblin Hideout, is where you can find another piece of Infernal Iron. All you need to do here is find Dror Ragzlin in the back and locate his stash at X:296, Y:65. There are a few ways into his Stash, including killing him and looting his key, pickpocketing his key, using the Knock spell, lockpicking the door, or simply smashing your way through the door. Regardless of how you get in, you'll be able to take the Infernal Iron and the other loot inside his stash.

Zentarim Hideout

If you've found the hidden Zentarim Hideout near Waukeen's Rest, then you can find another piece of Infernal Iron here. This one you'll have to steal, so be sure to either do it stealthily or prepare for a bloody battle. You can find this one at X:282, Y:167, behind a locked gate. Get inside by whatever means necessary and then you'll be faced with two chests. They're both trapped and locked, but only the one on the right is the one we'll want. Once you manage to break through the trap and lock, you can take the Infernal Iron.

Stonemason Kith - Grymforge

This one is a bit different. Once you've reached the Underdark and reached Grymforge, you can speak to the a Duergar here by the name of Stonemason Kith. He'll ask you a few questions regarding the stonework here, where you'll need to pass three checks with DC 10 in order to get the Infernal Iron for free.

We recommend using Shadowheart as she's trained in both History and Perception, which gives you the best shot at succeeding all three. Even if you don't manage to succeed at all three, you can still buy the Infernal Iron from Kith for 200g. You can also always kill Kith and loot it from his body as well.

Mason's Guild, Reithwin Town - Shadow Cursed Lands

Once you make it to the Shadow Cursed Lands in Act 2, you can find another piece of Infernal Iron. This one will just be sitting in the Overworld at X:105, Y:18. You'll have to progress the story a little bit in order to be able to freely move through the Shadow Curse, but once you're able to and you make it to Reithwin Town, this one is yours for the taking.

Balthazar's Vault - Gauntlet of Shar

While progressing through the Gauntlet of Shar during the main story, you'll encounter a locked Vault Door outside of Balthazar's laboratory. The Vault Door has a DC check of 30 to unlock, so we highly recommend using Astarion here to pick the lock or using the 2nd level Sorcerer/Wizard spell "Knock" which can unlock the door. Inside of the Vault, there will be 3 Opulent Chests, each filled with goodies, but the middle chest will contain another piece of Infernal Iron.

Yurgir - Gauntlet of Shar

The last piece of Infernal Iron can be found by looting the Orthon Yurgir's corpse inside the Gauntlet of Shar. Yurgir is located a bit a way's off at X:-660, Y:-760 inside the Gauntlet, near the end of the trials and hidden away. Yurgir is also related to the quest, "Kill Raphael's Old Enemy". You have to fight and kill him to loot the Iron. If you let him go he won't give you the Iron, so violence is the only solution. Unless you sneak up on him, you have some dialogue options to make the fight easier, but you'll still have to face down a tough boss either way.
