Baldur’s Gate 3 has a variety of unique locations to explore, each containing a series of side quests. Among these quests is the Find the Mushroom Picker quest in the Underdark, which involves helping to track down and rescue Baelen, the lost husband of a woman at the Myconid Colony.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Find the Mushroom Picker Quest Guide
To initiate the Save Baelen quest, you will first need to head to the Underdark and visit the Myconid Colony. Once here, you will need to locate and speak to a trader woman named Derryth Bonecloak, who will tell you that her husband, Baelen, has gone missing while searching for some Noblestalk Mushrooms. As you may have guessed, it’s up to you and your party to help this woman out by locating and rescuing Baelen from the trouble he’s got himself into.
Baelen can be located northwest of the Myconid Colony, trapped inside a field of poisonous, explosive mushrooms called Bibberbangs. You’ll need to find a way to save Baelen by rescuing him from this field, however, you won’t be able to get close to the Bibberbangs without getting blown up. For this reason, you’ll need to turn to certain utility Spells or actions to assist the poor guy.

When you encounter Baelen, he will ask you tobring him his bag, which he lost some time ago. Doing so is one of several ways in which you can successfully save Baelen, as there is a scroll of Misty Step inside that he can use to escape the Blibberbangs unscathed.
Although Baelen’s bag is located to thewest of where you encounter him, you cannot simply stroll toward the backpack. First, it’s a good idea toenter the Turn-Based modeby clicking the hourglass icon on the right side of the hot bar. This will give you more room to think and act since you must get near some Bibberbangs to grab the bag.
Now, you can either use a character with significant jump power, such as the Enhance Leap ability, or a teleportation, such as Misty Step to avoid danger and land beside Baelen’s bag. Once you are here, you can use the Throw action to toss Baelen’s Bag over to him. However, some characters may not be strong enough to do so.
In this case, you can choose to either take the Scroll of Misty Step out of the bag and throw that to him, or use the Mage Hand Spell and have your Mage Hand throw the bag to him instead. After you toss the bag or scroll toward Baelen, you must back away from the mushrooms, or they’ll explode.
If you don’t want to risk the safety of your party to retrieve Baelen’s bag, or don’t want to waste value by throwing him your own Scroll of Misty Step, you can dismiss these methods and instead focus on the key threat of the problem — the torch in which he has left afire on a rock, posing a huge explosive hazard.
In this scenario, you can creep forward and use either the Throw action to toss a bottle of water on the torch, or utilize a Spell, such as Create Water, to put the torch out. Now, you will need to either throw some potions on Baelen, or use some healing Spells to get him back to full HP. Lastly, if you have utility Spells that can buff his Saving Throws, such as Bless, using them will also help ensure this method runs smoothly.
The last step of this method involves detonating the Blibberbangs with a melee attack. As you have removed the source of fire, they will no longer explode, and will instead only release noxious fumes. Baelen will now begin running to safety, though he will need to make a few Saving Throws against the poison on his way out, which may result in damage.
This is why it is crucial you ensure you heal, and buff Baelen if possible prior to detonating the trap. Once Baelen has been brought to safety through any of these methods, you can speak to him and earn a Scroll of Invisibility as a reward. Lastly, you will need to return to the Myconid Colony and speak with Derryth one last time to end the quest.
Completing the Find the Mushroom Picker mission will give you the Gloves of Uninhibited Kushigo. This rare gear can grant an additional 1d4 damage with Throw Attacks and attacks using Improvised Weapons, meaning they are perfect for the likes of a Monk or Barbarian, especially a Tavern Brawler build utilizing weapons such as the returning Pike. This may very well make a great addition to your Karlach build, so it’s important to remember to return to the Myconid Colony to claim this reward.
Now that you know where to find Baelen and his bag, you can also help Sovereign Glut avenge its clan in Baldur’s Gate 3. Unfortunately, the Myconic king will ask you to kill Sovereign Spaw, who didn’t help Glut when its home was attacked. You will need to decide between siding with Sovereign Glut or Sovereign Spaw, and each choice brings different outcomes and challenges.
