Nail files and buffs: the ultimate guide
Home Bio Sculpture Blog Nail files and buffs: the ultimate guide
Nail files and buffs are a must-have in every nail technicians kit. They are essential in creating a beautifully shaped, elegant manicure. Although most nail techs have their favourites, are we making the most of these unsung heroes? Well, we have put together the ultimate guide to our files and buffs so that you can become an expert in shaping and shining.
Back to basics
One of the most frequently asked questions during manicure training is 'what grit should I use?'. Grit is how we rate the size of abrasive materials on files. The amount of abrasion caused to the nail is determined by how many abrasive grains are in one-inch square. To put this simply, the lower the number the more rough or abrasive the file is, the higher the number the less rough and smoother the file is.
Shapeand size
Like most things in life the variety isvast, and they come in almost every shape and size possible. Here atRE:NEW,we have whittled it down to create our very own selection of files and buffs that will truly complementyou during any treatment. Let’slookat theseand how each of them can beused.
Buffs Vs Files
Buffsare used to smooth over the top of the nail or your gel. They tend to bemore cushionedthan a file. Files help you to reduce the length of your free edge. They tend to be thinner to make manoeuvring around the nail easier.

Quality pays off
It can be tempting to go with thecheapest option when shopping for files, but price is often a reflection of quality. Cheaper, poorly made files and buffscan often shed their grit, wear out, crease, fold, become tooflexible (as theyoftenrequire extrapressureand effort to achieve the same result), and even cut fingers. In many cases, higher quality files will last longer and ultimately save you money, not to mention provide your client with a superior treatment experience.
