After stacking up billions of streams, earning multiplatinum plaques, and fueling the explosion of South Florida as a 21st century hip-hop mecca, Ski Mask The Slump God didn’t merely aim to make another album for his long-awaited sophom*ore offering. Instead, he chose to architect a living and breathing world with his second full-length LP, 11th Dimension [Victor Victor Worldwide/Republic Records]. Over the course of 21 tracks, that world finds the Florida spitter entrenched in layers of not only the mind-blowing rap he’s known for, but also alternative, heavy metal, and even Jamaican and island stylings.

As such, it unfolds as not only a worthy successor to his legacy, but also as a harbinger of the future.

“I never really built a world for a project yet, so I wanted to tie everything in together,” he states. “To me, 11th Dimension is another astral plane. I make mood-setting music, so every song will give you a different feeling. Nothing is the same. It’s like there are eleven dimensions to this world across 21 songs. You’re going to get every style I’ve done mixed into one.”

Flipping the script with a middle finger to all expectations, Ski Mask The Slump God has consistently pushed himself to progress, taking hip-hop along with him. He blazed a trail of his own out of Broward County to his platinum-certified full-length debut, Stokeley, bowing in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 in 2018. His elite lyricism, offbeat references, and distinct emotionality bled through the double-platinum “Faucet Failure” and platinum hits “Catch Me Outside,” “Take A Step Back,” “Nuketown,” “Babywipe,” and “Foot Fungus.” A sense of vicious versatility has enabled him to seamlessly collaborate with everyone from close cohort and gone-too-soon brothers XXXTentacion and Juice WRLD and J. Cole’s DreamVille to Lyrical Lemonade, Trippie Redd, Sxmpra, and Danny Towers. Beyond sharing the stage with $uicide Boy$ and the late Juice WRLD and XXXTentacion, he has emerged as a powerhouse headliner in his own right too. Moreover, he incited the applause of Pitchfork, The FADER,UPROXX, andComplex, to name a few.

In fall 2023, he decamped to Los Angeles and locked into 11th Dimension, giving the project life. He leaned on a myriad of influences, including classic Busta Rhymes, Lauryn Hill, Marilyn Manson, Dead Kennedys, and Portugal. The Man. He also took the stage show into consideration, envisioning “songs that would go off in concert.

Simultaneously, he reflected on the whirlwind in the rearview with thoughts weighing heavy on his mind about best friends XXXTentacion and Juice WRLD.

“A lot of experiences brought me here,” he observes. “There’s a lot of growing up. Real-life things happened. I dealt with friends passing away. I was also tapping into all of these other sounds. 11th Dimension is a mesh of all that.”

He kicked down the door for his next season with the manically catchy “Shibuya.” Christened “A bass-banging cut” by HYPEBEAST, it reeled in tens of millions of streams. He maintained this momentum with the nu-metal moshpit-ready crunch of “Headrush,” spitting pure fire over distorted guitar.

“I wanted to show everybody how diverse the album was,” he notes. “There are so many sounds to it, and these two songs represented opposing sides.”

Elsewhere, “Monsters Inc.” sees him trade otherworldly verses with none other than Future over an ominous bass-drenched beat courtesy of ATL Jacob. After a breathy crescendo from Pluto, Ski Mask The Slump God tears through the synths with a punchy proclamation, “I seem to have lost my f*cks, before proceeding to body the beat further into submission.

“Future and I have been talking about doing a song, so it was a long time coming,” he smiles. “I’ve always loved cartoons and anime. In the Pixar movie, ‘Monsters Inc.’ is a company with monsters who scare people as a job. It’s off-the-wall, but it feels right for a title.”

Glitchy keys surge through “Jump” as he namedrops Voldemort over a sample of the Busta Rhymes classic “Pass The Courvoisier.” He adds, “I tried to put my kind of rap over it, and I really love how it turned out.”

Embracing alternative, he flexes his melodic prowess on the hypnotic and hooky “WDYM,” while “From Yard” pops off as a reggae-infused banger punctuated by wailing sirens, thick bass, and a fiery cameo from Skillibeng. “Both my mom and dad are from Jamaica,” he goes on. “Whether it’s family reunions or hanging out together in general, how we live our lives is Jamaican as f*ck. It’s always been a big part of how I live, what I do, and who I am. When you’re from Jamaica, you say, ‘I’m from yard’. I’d always wanted to make a song like this, and Skillibeng killed it.”

In the end, Ski Mask The Slump God welcomes everyone into his world now.

You may not want to leave.

“When you listen to this, I hope you say, ‘Damn, I know it’s been a long time, but this is good’,” he concludes. “I’m not going to take that long again. I’m still here, and I’m trying to drop the best music I can. I may come off as mysterious, but I’m easygoing. I’m hardworking. I love my family. I love my fans. I plan on putting in a lot more work. This isn’t the end; it’s another beginning.”
